Description
The bishop Teofilius Matulionis visited and prayed many times at the Vilnius Cathedral, admired and followed the example of St, Casimir’s holiness. On 16 February 1940, in the presence of representatives of the Lithuanian authorities and the army, in the cathedral, he sacrificed a solemn pontifical St. Mass for Lithuanian freedom. There are relics of two Blessed archbishops of Lithuania – the blessed George and the Blessed Teofilius. The altar of the relic is adorned with images of the Blessed Jurgis Matulaitis (1871-1927) and Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis (1873-1962).
