Description
An artist Linas Gelumbauskas painted a picture of the Blessed Martyr Teofilius (100 × 160, canvas, oil, 2017) for St. Anna church in Vievis. Although the painting is realistic, the symbolism is not avoided. In full height, the Blessed One depicted in solemn bishop’s clothing does not lower his hand from the cross hanging on his chest. The cross accompanied him for life. And although the cross here is episcopal, shining with gold, it is still a sign of faith, suffering, hope, comfort, and strength. The face of the Blessed Martyr Teofilius was painted very close to his photograph taken during his visit to the United States (1934-1936). A deep thoughtful look reveals a deep and painful experience and a feeling that hardship for the Church is not yet exhausted and that suffering for Christ is not yet suffered.
