Description
In 1985, the Diocese of Kaišiadorys purchased from private individuals a 1-flat wooden house built in 1954 where the Bishop V. Sladkevičius – the Head of Diocese settled. In 1988, the bishop Vincentas Sladkevičius was elected chairman of the Lithuanian Bishops’ Conference – the representative and leader of the country church, and was promoted to Cardinal of the Holy Roman Church – this honourable title was granted to the clergyman residing in Lithuania for the first time in the history of Christianity of this land. In 1989, the Cardinal V. Sladekvičius was appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Kaunas and moved to Kaunas. He died in Kaunas in 2000, was buried in Kaunas Cathedral Basilica. Later, this house was home to the clerks of the curia and administrative centre of the diocese. In 2007, the house was renovated, the interior changed and two flats were installed – for the vicar general and the chancellor of the diocese. House address: Kęstučio str. 31, Kaišiadorys.
