Description
The priest Stanislovas Kiškis was born in St. Petersburg on 20 October 1900, in a religious family of Lithuanian intellectuals, who came from Lithuania, in the parish of Kavarskas. The family had seven children. In 1918, Stanislovas entered the Vilnius Priest Seminary but was not ordained immediately after his graduation. This was hindered by his young age. Advised by the Bishop Jurgis Matulaitis, he came to Kaunas and studied apologetics at the Faculty of Theology – Philosophy taught by prof. P. Bučys and taught religion in schools. Archbishop Zecchini gave him the ordination of the priesthood in the Marijonų Chapel of St. Gertrūda Church in 1924. In the summer of 1941, upon the German occupation of Kaišiadorys, the priest S. Kiškis organized a hospital here for the remaining wounded Red Army soldiers and saved many of them from death. In 1944, many people thought that the priest S. Kiškis would be rewarded, unfortunately, this was not the case and he was arrested, convicted and deported to Siberian forced labour camps. He spent 10 years in prison; then he apostled by visiting the Lithuanians in exile and giving them the sacraments. In 1989, the prelate S. Kiškis wrote a statement to Kaišiadorys Bishop J. Matulaitis asking for the commencement of the canonical process of proclaiming the holiness of Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis. The case was opened and continued until T. Matulionis was proclaimed the Blessed 2017.
