Description
He was ordained a priest in 1909. The priest Matas Cijūnaitis was a canon, a parson, and a builder of the Krivonys Church. From 1925to 1946, he was the parson of Žasliai. In Žasliai in 1926, he organized the ingress for the Bishop J. Kukta. From 1927 onwards, he accompanied the visiting bishop during the summers (until 1939). His main works in Žasliai church are two stone altars; in 1928, the church consecration; in 1933, he built the chapel of Jesus carrying the cross in the churchyard (near which he was buried). In 1933, he built the Krivonys Church. At the outbreak of World War II, he hid the Jews – a doctor of Žasliai Riva Trapidienė and her preteen son Leib.
