Description
The priest Kazimieras Bandzevičius, who was the parish priest in Molėtai from 1900 to 1924, built the present brick church with parishioners in 1905-1907. Before the First World War, there was a branch of the Lithuanian Catholic Sober Society. The church is a neo-baroque, has the plan of Latin cross, with 2 tall towers and a protruding facade. Inside there are 3 naves, altars with baroque decor. The fence of the churchyard is made of stone masonry and there are 18-step stairs in front of the church. Twenty years before the beatification, Vilnis V. Cukuras, the parson of Molėtai, prophetically predicted that Teofilius Matulionis would surely be exalted to the altar honour, so he ordered to depict the archbishop in the mural with an aureola so that future parsons would not have to remake stained glass window. The essence of Christianity is love: love for God and neighbour. Love for a neighbor that includes acceptance, respect, help, brotherhood, sharing, and forgiveness. This message is relevant today, and so it will be tomorrow.
