Jurgis Astikas donated new lands in 1575to the church instead of tithing. All the priests of Alanta died in the plague during the year 1656. Then the church supplies were picked up by the manor. The Great Altar was taken to the Kavarskas Church. A priest was appointed in 1658. In 1675, the church was of cross-plan, without towers, with two side chapels, one restored, the other old, abandoned. The project of a new stone church developed by the Swedish architect Karl Eduard Strandmann was approved in 1903. From 1904 until 1909, a church was bricked in, a presbytery was plastered, an altar of the old church was erected and worship services were commenced. In 2003-2008, the works on facade restoration, roof and tower emergency condition removal were performed.
