Description
On 26 June 1941, the Red Army soldiers shot nearly all of the prisoners there, as well as 26 wardens, clerks and members of their families. At the time, there were about 450 prisoners, including the owners of Kaunas “Drobė” factory P. Štrimas, J. Šimaitis, P. Vaitiekūnas, J. Žostautas. A cross near the shooting site to commemorate the victims was erected in 1991. On the cross, there is a table with the name “In memory of the 450 political prisoners and camp workers and their families imprisoned in the Pravieniškės camp and killed by the retreating Red Army on 26 June 1941”.
