Description

The monument to Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis was erected at the gate of Kaišiadorys Cathedral in Kaišiadorys Town Square. The initiator of the monument is J. Matulaitis, the bishop of Kaišiadorys, the author – Vladas Žuklys. The old cathedral gate once stood in this place, demolished by the decision of the Kaišiadorys Executive Committee and the State Committee on Construction and Architecture in 1966. The monument sort of takes us back to the days when the Bishop Teofilius Matulionis was appointed Bishop of Kaišiadorys in 1943 when he used to meet and bless the faithful from the gate of the cathedral.
