Description
After the beatification of Teofilius Matulionis on 6 July 2017, on the State Day, Vaidotas Žukas, an artist, hosted the exhibition “The Blessed Teofilius Matulionis in Homeland: Authentic Photos, Letters from Soviet Prisons, Relics, Witnesses to Prayer” in the manor of Alanta. It was here, in the church of Alanta, that the future Blessed was baptized, his parents married, Teofilius’s mother is buried in the parish cemetery. In February 2019, the Museum of the Blessed Teofilius Matulionis was opened in the manor of Alanta. The exposition presents the documents testifying about the Soviet system, which broke the fates of those who did not adapt to it and who did not give in to it. The museum offers photographs and documents that testify to the difficult but meaningful life of the Blessed. The sad facts of the life of Teofilius Matulionis also lay in the manor of Alanta. It is painful but necessary to remember and not to forget the struggle of the hard-to-understand Soviet system and the struggle of a man with strong hope and faith. Fight for light, fight for a better world. The manor Alanta was built in 1858. Tadeusz PAc-Pomarnacki ruled the manor until World War I. Soviet land reform of 1944-1948 liquidated the manor of Alanta and established the Alanta Inferior Agricultural School in the house. In 1945, there was a primary school in the palace which operated for one year, later a farm office, the shop was established and people lived there. In 1959-1973, there was an agricultural school in the building of the Manor house of Alanta, and the techers and students lived there. Later, the house remained empty, but more maintained, guarded, and adapted exclusively for cultural purposes. While visiting the manor house, we always find paintings here. Previously, the Plein-air works organized by an artist dr. Sigita Maslauskaitė in Alanta, now Vaidotas Žukas Gallery.
