Description

The mother of the blessed Teofilius Matulionis died in 1877. At this place, when dying, the mother sacrificed her children to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This devotion accompanied Teofilius throughout his life. A birthplace of Teofilus Matulionis. Kudoriškis was marked with a cross in 2000. Following the proclamation of Teofilius Matulionis as the Venerable, this cross was relocated to the other place near the public road and the homestead was marked with a new oak sculptural composition with a cross in the centre (the author-sculptor Tauras Česnulevičius, 2017). The parking lot, information stand are installed nearby. “Through the Cross to the Stars” was the motto followed by the Blessed Archbishop Teofilius Matulionis. The faithful and the clergy gathered to celebrate the cross created by the sculptor Tauras Česnulevičius to the homeland of the Venerable. The Blessed Teofilius Matulionis is a great gift to the church, Lithuania and every Christian. His personality will always be associated with great spiritual strength, faith, and an example that can help you discover strength and faith when the world as a whole seems to turn against you. This is well illustrated by his behaviour during interrogations, which were extremely painful. To resist evil – not to resist human weakness, if it is possible – to help, or at least to sympathize, has always been taught and is taught by the life of the blessed Teofilius Matulionis.
