Description
Museum in Vilnius located in the same building, where since the second half of 1940 as late as August 1991, the Soviet repressive institutions NKVD and NKGB – MGB – KGB created plans for the deportation, arrests of the residents of Lithuania, persecution of dissentients and the aspiration of the nation for the restoration of independence. In the basement of the building, there is an internal prison extant – an interrogation isolation cell, where the Lithuanian residents who did not indulge the occupation authorities were imprisoned as late as the autumn of 1987. Visitors can familiarize themselves with the exposition set up in the former death penalty room. An exposition dedicated to the Nazi occupation and the Holocaust in Lithuania was opened in one of the cells of the former KGB prison in 2011, where the records of the prisoners imprisoned by the Gestapo during the Nazi occupation remain on the wall.
