Description
Jonas Mykolas Strutinskas and his wife Rožė Platerytė began construction of a Baroque contemporary church and a two-story stone monastery in 1732, where barefoot Cermelites accommodated in 1734. It was completed in 1763. it is built in Baroque style. The interior is spacious, it has three altars, and the grand altar is decorated with ornaments. The cross vault is supported by rectangular columns with ornamental capitals. The other two altars, which stand in the corners of the nave, are of two stages decorated with statues. The road to Antalieptė, where there is the Church of the Discovery of St. Cross and the former Carmelite Monastery in the valley of the Šventoji River, was filled with the thoughts, prayers and memories of Bishop Teofilius Matulionis.
