Description
A painting of the Merciful Jesus with a Lithuanian inscription ordered by the bishop Teofilius Matulionis hangs in the chapel of Divine Mercy. Renowned restorer of the time, Liucija Balzukievičiuvna, made several copies of the painting while restoring the original painting. On the side altars of the Chapel of Divine Mercy, there are relics of St. Pope John Paul II, St. Faustina and her confessor the blessed priest Mykolas Sopočka. Monsignor A. Jurevičius pays attention to the details of the paintings in this chapel. In the image of the pope, there is the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on one side, and on the other – the Hill of Crosses. In addition, the saint holds in her hand a book with the inscription “Diary” in Lithuanian. The bishop’s throne, the so-called cathedral, in the central nave is one of the most ornate in Lithuania.
